Rules of the board

A public board for marketing a website on a New Zealand region. Your site is the ad; the map is how people find it.

  1. What you buy

    A ranked listing on one New Zealand place — your URL on that place's public board. The #1 listing is the name shown on the map. You are not buying the land, a trademark, or an exclusive right that lasts once someone else bids higher. Paste the site as you'd say it: example.nz is enough. https:// and www are optional — we drop them. An @handle lists as that handle.

  2. The places

    18 places: the 16 regions, Stewart Island, and the Whale — a sperm whale holding station over the Kaikōura Canyon, the one lot that is water rather than land. Tap a place for the ranked list. The site name on the map is #1; tap it to visit.

  3. Bids

    Whole New Zealand dollars only — no cents — from $1 to $999,999. The Whale is the dearer water: it opens at $100 and every take is at least $100 over the sitting bid. Reuse the same URL or @handle to move higher; you pay only the difference. No account required.

    The one-liner belongs to whoever paid for the listing. Pay from the same email to change it — leave it blank and the current line stays. A raise paid from any other email moves the bid and leaves the line alone.

  4. Outbid, no refund

    Anyone can pay more and take your rank. When they do, you stay on the public list below them, and you are not refunded. A raise on the same URL is a new charge for the difference only.

    When another site takes #1 from you, we email the address you paid with, once, with what it costs to take it back. Every email has a link that stops them. That is the only email we send.

  5. Not for the board

    • No chat links — Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, and the rest.
    • No porn.
    • No URL shorteners. Use the real address.
    • Query strings get stripped. The click should be clean.

  6. Removal

    outbid.nz may remove a listing that breaks these rules, the law, or that we reasonably consider harmful. Removal is not a refund.

  7. Payment

    Cards are charged in NZD by Stripe. The price you see is the total you pay — there is nothing added at checkout. You are paying for a ranked listing on the named place, as described on this page. A listing appears after payment is confirmed.

  8. Who runs this

    Merlin Stemmer, in Christchurch. I made this because I love this country. My other site, chch.live, is what is happening in Christchurch right now. I also made feedthecat.xyz and marly.studio.
