About Northland
Northland is the long tail of the North Island — Whangārei at the base, the Bay of Islands halfway up, and Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua where the two oceans argue at the end of it. It is the warmest region in the country and the least industrial, which shows in what people do here: horticulture, marine, forestry, tourism, and a great many small trade businesses run off a ute and a phone number.
